this dna study was limited to a very small group of family surnames who lived on Newman's Ridge, TN making this a geographical grouping rather than a
kinship study.

The study was originally done to prove that there was no black ancestry amongst Melungeons. SURPRISE!

But there are many more ancestries amongst the individual families besides just black and white. One of the authors of this study has written several times that there is no Turkish dna. And of course, that is true. Turkey is a modern country but many Melungeon descendants show ancestry from the AREA that is NOW Turkey as well as now Armenia, Greece, Italy and other Mediterranean areas.

Many Folks from the Appalachian areas are finding some inherited illnesses known to belong to descendants from these Med. countries. Some of these descendants also have Melungeon ties.
